All things new(1-8)
All things new(1-8)
1) A new heaven and earth verse 1
2) New Jerusalem verse 2
3) The presence of God with His people verse 3
4) The absence of sin's consequences verse 4
5) The enjoyment of things new verse 5
6) The perfection of God's work verse 6
7) The contrast of the saved and lost verse 7-8
The term "heaven and earth" in scripture describes everything of the material creation(Genesis 1 v1; Exodus 31 v17; 2nd Chronicles 2 v12; Nehemiah 9 v6; Psalm 8 v3; Isaiah 42v5 and a host of other examples. All in heaven and earth was made by Him. We must understand that a) the original creation, however was only temporary(Genesis 8 v22; Psalm 102 v25-26; Isaiah 51 v6; Matthew 5 v18; 2nd Peter 3 v10-13; Revelation 20 v11). Like and old garment we cast off to put on new clothes so God will change the universe! b) Heaven and earth were separated by a firmament(Genesis 1 v6-8); c) there were three heavens, the heaven of heavens called the third heaven(2nd Corinthians 12 v2, also Deuteronomy 10 v14; 1st Kings 8 v27, Nehemiah 9 v6, Psalm 115 v15-16, this is the dwelling place of God, also there are the starry heavens and the atmospheric heavens. In the new heaven and earth there will be no separation, for God will dwell with men, and this will continue into the unending ages! Isaiah recorded in chapter 65 v17-18 "For behold I create new heavens and a new earth: and the former shall not be remembered, nor come into mind, but be ye glad and rejoice for ever in that which I create...". Also in Isaiah 66 v22 "For as the new heavens and the new earth which I shall make, shall remain before me, saith the Lord, so shall your seed and your name remain". Peter calls it God's promise to His people in 2nd Peter 3 v13 "Nevertheless we, according to His promise look for "new heavens and a new earth", wherein dwelleth righteousness". This is eternity for the saints.
