Genesis chapter 25
"And Abraham gave all that he had unto Isaac..."
This completes the quintet of chapters from 21-25 relating Isaac, the son of promise, to Christ;
Chapter 21 The miraculous birth of Isaac, corresponding to the incarnation of Christ
Chapter 22 The offering up of Isaac, corresponding to the death of Christ
Chapter 23 The death of Sarah, Isaac's mother, figuring the setting aside of Israel
Chapter 24 The servant wooing a Gentile bride for Isaac, the Church as the bride of Christ
Chapter 25 The father bestowing the inheritance exclusively on Isaac
Bible students will recognise the prophetic pattern as filled out in later scripture. At the end of chapter 24, we see the bride Rebekah at home together with Isaac. Subsequent on that, Abraham gives the inheritance to Isaac, symbolic of rule and riches, and together they share in the bounty of the father. This is but a small picture of the ultimate inheritance of Christ of all things. There is nothing clearer in scripture that Christ, who came by miraculous birth; who offered Himself on Mount Moriah; who wept at the demise of Israel; who waits to be united to His predominantly Gentile bride, will inherit all things, and rule supreme in all things. We, now, take a panoramic view from scripture of this amazing truth. The scriptures are clear, the babe of Bethlehem, the Christ of Calvary, the Saviour of sinners will rule the world as the following scriptures decree:
Psalm 2v7-8 "I will declare the decree: the Lord hath said unto me, Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee. Ask of me, and I will give thee the nations for thine inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth for thy possession." On that future day, when He enters into full Sonship, He will inherit all things.
Daniel 7v13-14 "And I saw in the night visions and behold one like unto the Son of Man came with the clouds of heaven, and came to the Ancient of days, and they brought Him near before Him. And there was given Him dominion and glory, and a kingdom, that all people, nations and languages should serve Him; His dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and His kingdom that which shall not be destroyed." In a chapter where all world kingdoms will fall, the Son of Man will rule in totality, and that forever, This, the Ancient of days will give Him.
Matthew 11v27 "All things are delivered unto me of my Father: and no man knoweth the Son but the Father; neither knoweth any man the Father save the Son, and he to whomsoever the Son will reveal Him."
Matthew 28v18 "All power (authority) is given unto me in heaven and on earth."
Luke 1v32-33 "He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto Him the throne of His father David: And He shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of His kingdom there shall be no end."
John 3v35 "The Father loveth the Son and hath given all things into His hand. He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life but the wrath of God abideth on Him." The Son is the arbiter of human destiny!
John 13v3 "Jesus knowing that the Father had given all things into His hands, and that He was come from God and went to God."
John 17v1-2 "Father, the hour is come; glorify thy Son that thy Son may also glorify thee: as thou hast given Him power (authority) over all flesh, that He should give eternal life to as many as thou hast given Him."
Ephesians 1v10 "That in the dispensation of the fulness of the times He might gather together in one (head up-bring all things to a conclusion) all things in Christ, both which are in heaven , and which are on earth, even in Him." The next verse (v11) makes it clear the context is inheritance, and opens another marvellous study that all believers will share in that inheritance just as Rebekah received of Isaac.
Philippians 2v9 "Wherefore God also hath highly exalted Him and given Him a name which is above every name."
Colossians 1v16 "...all things were created by Him and for Him."
Hebrews 1v2 "God...hath in these last days spoken unto us by His Son, whom He hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also He made the worlds."
And so scripture is emphatic that all things are in His hand, and He holds the destiny of every one of us for good or bad. No wonder the Psalmist wrote in Psalm 2 in the portion from which our study commenced, "Kiss the Son, lest He be angry, and ye perish by the way when His wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all they that put their trust in Him."
